· Chinese monochrome glaze inspiration ·

Monochrome glaze is also known as "one-color glaze", "pure color glaze" or "one glaze". Due to the different chemical components in the glaze, the porcelain will show different single colors after firing. Chinese monochrome glaze porcelain entered a period of vigorous development in the Song Dynasty and reached its peak during the reigns of Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty. Monochrome glaze porcelain products are bright and uniform, smooth and beautiful, and elegant.
Inspired by the minimalist aesthetics of Chinese monochrome glazed ceramics, LOEWE Creative Director Jonathan Anderson changed the 2023 Early Spring Series bags to a solid-color design, paying tribute to traditional Chinese aesthetics with contemporary aesthetic language.

During a trip to China, I saw monochrome glaze for the first time and was immediately impressed by its infinite charm. China's monochrome glaze has had a profound impact on ceramic art around the world since ancient times, and has laid a solid foundation for the colors of many ceramic artists today.

This Hammock handbag is made of "Okra Green Glaze" satin calfskin , with matching hardware, jacquard shoulder straps and ceramic bunny pendants. Okra Green Glaze was first fired during the Yongzheng period of the Qing Dynasty. The color is light green and yellowish, and the tone is elegant and soft, just like the color of okra flowers . According to "Yinliuzhai Shuoci" written by Xu Zhiheng (1877-1935), a scholar in the late Qing and early Ming dynasties, "The light green and slightly yellowish is called okra green."

LOEWE 2016 Spring/Summer Fashion Show

Back to the bag shape itself - Hammock is a bag launched by LOEWE in the spring and summer of 2016. The design is inspired by the "hammock" . Jonathan Anderson applied the arc structure, ropes on both sides and the foldable characteristics of the hammock to the bag design, making the bag have the changeable attributes of switching shapes at will, and also injecting the lazy and comfortable atmosphere of vacation into it.

To this day, LOEWE's craftsmen still continue the tradition of hand-making each bag. To achieve a flexible and changeable bag structure, each piece of leather needs to be precisely laser cut to ensure the accuracy of size, proportion and details, and then go through complex processes such as stitching, hand-painted oil edges, and hardware assembly .

The satin calfskin material allows the bag to maintain a clever and stiff geometric silhouette. The smooth and delicate leather is closer to the glossy texture of ceramic glaze, presenting a warm and elegant tone.

As mentioned above, the Hammock handbag can be carried by hand, on the shoulder, or across the body in a variety of ways. The bag can be transformed to suit different scenes and styles, conveying a sense of casualness, freedom, and pleasure.

The bag's "transformation" is mainly achieved through the side zipper, internal hooks and detachable shoulder strap . The bag is most compact when the zipper is closed and the buttons are hooked. When the hook is released and the zipper is pulled to the bottom, the bag opening opens like a fan, presenting the most relaxed posture.

The shoulder straps, lining and hardware details are all made of the same okra green glaze as the bag, paying tribute to the pure and clean aesthetic concept of monochrome glaze.
